First Friday

Children's book illustrator Hallie Gillett is back at art & light with all new works. In this collection Ms. Gillett explores the purpose of umbrellas. "Seeking to add color to an enjoyably overcast and drizzly day, I humbly present to you a fanciful collection of this unique icon of shelter" says the artist.

The First Firday of every month changes this quiet little community into
a flurry of activity. Studios and galleries are host to as many as 200
people who enter the shops to meet the artists. Along with the great
variety of art, you'll often enjoy music, refreshment, and great
conversation.

JUNE:

Art and Light Gallery: Opening Friday, June 4 (6-9pm) June 4-26: art and light Opening First Friday, Show with Janina Turkarski Ellis and Hallie Gillett. Also featured in June are Katie Walker and Drew Fields.

Janina Ellis spent one day in downtown Greenville and photographed life--simply life playing itself out all around her on one typical day. She took time to notice and stumbled upon beautiful moments occurring in the lives of complete strangers. She seized unique moments before they could disappear and is sharing them with us. "I adore painting from photographs. They allow me to capture fleeting expressions, subconscious gestures and rays of unexpected sunlight. The language of the human body is so important to me. Painting with both acrylic and oil allows me to manipulate deep textures both visually and tangibly," says the artist. Janina also explains, "the true charm and allure of a painting derives from its implication rather than its precision.
